Are you interested in the Samsung S22 Plus but are still unsure whether you should pull the trigger or not?
Released back in 2022, this Android phone has been a fantastic addition to the Galaxy S22 family.
The phone effectively takes everything lovable about the S21 Plus and refines it to a whole new level, making it an attractive option in the competitive market of flagship smartphones.
This blog will take a deep dive into the most important aspects and features of this brilliant device from Samsung so that you know if it is worth your money or not.
Ready to learn?
Let’s get started.
Grabbing the phone, you might say, this is a S21 Plus phone. Well, not really. The design is almost identical to the previous model, except for the camera module. The colour of the camera module is the same as the body.
At the front, the device once again goes after the S21 Plus. The flat display is enveloped by the body-coloured frame. The bezels are slim, giving you more screen real estate.
The selfie camera resides inside a punch hole at the top of an all-display front screen.
The metal back feels smooth as you touch it and you will not feel it slippery. Samsung has used reflective aluminium which is pleasantly grippy. The contour-cut design containing the cameras looks nice, too.
One thing we can confidently say about the screen; this is one of the best displays we have seen so far in a smartphone, even beating the iPhone 13 Pro. The peak brightness of 1750 nits makes it a wonderful outdoor fellow.
The Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is only 0.1 inches smaller than the 6.7-inch panel of the Galaxy S21 Plus. The screen can go from 48Hz to 120Hz, which does a great job of delivering immersive on-screen visuals whether you play adventure games or watch the top National Geographic documentaries.
So, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus brings a similar display to the Galaxy S21 Plus. Users loved watching Blade Runner 2049 and playing Genshin Impact on the S22 Plus display. The colours pop up while the contrast is punchy which becomes more enjoyable with the dynamic screen refresh rate.
Samsung made a huge noise about its new Vision Booster technology, which was introduced into the S22 Plus’s attractive bright display. The feature makes use of artificial intelligence to smartly increase the brightness and contrast depending on the ambient conditions.
This ensures you don’t have to glare your eyes to watch on the screen. The feature is especially beneficial in direct sunlight – something the iPhone 13 Pro Max might struggle with.
The only truly noticeable difference between the S22 Plus and its earlier model is the peak brightness levels outdoors. The two devices have identical screen experiences for indoor usage.
The camera is where the S22 Plus has clearly made big strides. The phone has seen a remarkable improvement across the board, especially the main wide-angle lens and telephoto lens. The telephoto lens offers a 3x optical zoom compared to the 3x hybrid zoom we have seen in S21 Plus.
The 10MP selfie camera is installed in a small punch hole at the top. The triple-lens rear camera system brings a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.
As per Samsung, the main sensor is larger than the previous model, which means it can let in more light resulting in brighter photos. The phone still struggles to capture flawless low-light pictures that are too yellow with visible white balance issues.
Comparing the outdoor photography talents with the Google Pixel 6 Pro, the S22 Plus gives brighter photos with some compromise on colour accuracy. It is, by no means, bad, though.
The 3x optical zoom captures sharp details when capturing distant objects, although the photos look dimmer when compared with the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
When you take clicks indoors in the dying light, the photos give vibrant colours and you feel them really lifelike.
The front-facing selfie camera does a fantastic job while you take selfies. You will get enough details to inspire hearts and comments on your Insta posts.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones offer better features and performance for those who can pay extra money.
Do you love to shoot 8K videos at 24 frames per second? If yes, then you are going to love the Galaxy S22 Plus camera. Expect to record some high-resolution videos that look simply brilliant.
There are several other video features, as well. The HDR feature makes the videos look impressively detailed and beautiful which is attributed to a large extent to the stabilization.
The phone does a great job of handling the harsh setting sun. The videos look great after facing the challenge.
What if you have 10 people in the frame? Don’t worry. The new Auto Framing feature comes to the rescue here. It automatically adjusts the camera so that everyone is in focus. The feature does an equally remarkable job of capturing multiple objects in motion, like playing children or active pets.
Overall, the videos look smother than the S21 Plus delivering better stability and focus with multiple objects in the frame.
The Exynos 2200 chipset runs the devices sold outside the US while Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is available for phones sold inside the US. Both processors have immense powers to process anything. This was among the top-tier chips when the phone was released.
The apps open very quickly, the animations look beautiful, and the frame transitions look smooth as you play your favourite action games.
The graphics look much better than its predecessor and you will love the on-screen experience courtesy of a faster chipset and dynamic screen refresh rate.
The 4500 mAh battery is large enough to get you along a whole day of average use. The battery is a little smaller than the 4800 mAh battery found in the S21 Plus. Still, the performance is brilliant and you should expect to get a lot of time out of this stored energy.
The phone will last for nearly 10 hours with the display set to 150 nits and getting the device to endlessly load web pages over a 5G connection.
The Galaxy S22 Plus runs with Android 12 with One UI 4.1 on the top. The new version brings system-wide theme options, privacy dashboard, and a lot of smaller security features you don’t always come across. With the release of Android 13 via Samsung’s One UI 5 update, you should experience the latest Android version on the device.
Samsung has stressed a lot on customization and privacy features. You will see every application asking for permissions, specifically location, camera, and microphone.
You can also manage permissions including removing those you don’t want certain apps to use. You can simply go to the Settings menu, and tick out the Privacy section.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is a solid Android package with a lot to offer and cameras that are excellent in most scenarios.
If you are already using a Galaxy S21 Plus, then it’s a better choice to stay with that. The S22 Plus checks the most boxes but the upgrade is not enough to take the stride. The S22 Plus is worth your serious consideration if you have been using an older model, though.
The display is one of the key upgrades from its predecessor. The 1750 nits become extremely useful when using the phone outdoors. The screen is more power-efficient in a smaller size.
